The subjects are evaluated on a scale of 0 to 100, where 70 is the minimum passing grade for each course, in accordance with the Regulations of Graduate Studies at UABC. However, due to the guidelines of the PNPC from CONACyT, the minimum weighted averages to maintain the scholarship is 80, besides not have failed any subject.
The grades obtained in every subject are the result of the student’s performance through tests, essays and other works demanded by teachers. The grades of the research seminars takes into account the progress of the doctoral thesis that culminates with the semiannual presentation at the research colloquium, which is discussed and evaluated by a committee of experts who will make qualitative observations and will give a note too.
The evaluation of the teaching-learning process occurs in several ways: On the one hand, there is a teacher evaluation that is done by students through electronic means, which is institutionalized and depends on the Graduate Studies Office from UABC; on the other hand, the Committee of Graduate Studies (program) assesses each semester both students and teachers, which allows the continuous monitoring of the teaching-learning processes and, if applicable, to implement the appropriate changes for the continuous improvement of the program.
The PhD program in economic sciences offer students administrative support for procedures, equipment photocopying, audiovisual equipment for teaching, specialized bibliographic material, classrooms and workrooms, specialized laboratories, telephone and communication systems, computer labs with Internet access, loanable computing equipment and video conferencing systems.
Candidats must have a master’s degree for admission to the PhD program in Economics (DCE), preferably in economics; however, candidates with bachelors of related areas can also apply for the program as long as they meet the other requirements. In all cases, the decision will depend on the results of the admission tests, the interview with the committee and affinity with the field of research.
Students who have realized their Master degree in Economics at UABC must defend his master’s thesis and at least begin the process of their master certification in order to move onto the doctorate (DCE).
